Learning our Online System, Mini-Lesson #2: Email notifications

This is the second in a series of tips on using our online catalog and your online account with Griffin Free. Today we will explore how to sign up for email notifications about your checkouts.

If you have not yet set up your online account access, please come in or call to do so. We need to make sure your account is up to date and setup a password before you are able to access your account. No setup is necessary for using our catalog however.

To sign up for email notifications, you also much have an email address on file with the library. To see if you have one, login to your account through our catalog. Click “My Personal Details”. If you see an email listed there, and it is accurate, you are ready to sign up! If you don’t see an email, or you see one that isn’t current, please come in to the library or call us to attach one to your account.

Once you have an email address on file, you can login to your online account again, but now click on “My Messaging”. You will see this:

Each category is a different type of automatic message you can receive:

  • Advance notice sends an email as many days before your due date as you choose
  • Item checkout sends an email for each item you check out
  • Hold filled sends an email anytime an item you place on hold (not ILL) comes to the library
  • Item due sends an email on the day your item(s) come due
  • Item checkin sends an email each time one of your items is returned.

You are free to sign up for as many or as few of these options as you like. We recommend selecting “Advance notice” and picking a 2 or 3 day notice. Then click the box for “email”, and you will start getting the advance notice. (Advanced tip: selecting “Digests only” means you will get one email with all your items for that day instead of a separate email for each item. Much less clutter in your inbox!) If you prefer not to have to hold onto your printed receipts, “Item checkout” is a good choice.

For any item, just hit the “email” checkbox to start getting your email notifications. If you don’t want notifications, you don’t need to do anything. Emails are only sent to people who sign up for them.

If you have any questions about signing up for email notifications, let us know. We hope you are enjoying our online access, and look forward to seeing you at Griffin Free!
