Take Part in 1000 Books Reading Challenge!

The Griffin Free Library is proud to announce that we’ll be taking part in a nation-wide early literacy initiative called 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.

The idea behind the program is simple: encourage families to read to their young children and use the library! Every book you read to your child, no matter how many times you read it, counts toward the goal of 1,000 books.

th

Just Goodnight Moon alone should give you a head start on the list!

“Reading to children helps with their vocabulary and their listening skills,” said library director Kathy Growney. “We’re thrilled to offer this program to patron families and I can’t wait to see their reading lists grow!”

For families that want to participate, the steps are easy. Just stop by the library and pick up your 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading sheet. Each sheet has 100 spaces on it to mark your progress. When you’re done, bring the sheet back, pick up a little prize, and start work on the next 100. When you hit 1,000, your little reader will get a Congratulations Certificate to take home. It’s that easy!

Let’s have fun doing it. We can’t wait to see your little reader begin this great adventure in reading. If you have any questions or would like more information on the program, give us a call.

Now, get reading!
