Libraries are evolving and offer many services for our communities in addition to a great selection of books. We provide interesting programming, access to computers, free internet, databases, movies and a dedicated staff eager to assist you. As part of this evolution, we look for new ways to meet our mission to provide the people of Auburn with access to materials and information.
Our newest program aims to foster interest and education in science and technology. Thanks to the Friends of Griffin Free and the New Hampshire Astronomical Society, we now have an Orion StarBlast TELESCOPE that you may borrow to explore the night sky! There are more than 110 libraries in New Hampshire that lend telescopes and we are excited to bring this program to Auburn.
The telescope may be checked out (just like a book) so you may take it home to enjoy. The loan period is 7 days and we will keep a signup sheet for people waiting to use it at the desk. You will also need to plan a few extra minutes to check it out so we may train you on how to properly transport and use it. There is also a borrowing agreement that must be completed each time the telescope is borrowed.
As part of this initiative, we have added related books to our collection and are working on scheduling programming and Skywatches, so watch our website (www.griffinfree.com) and Facebook pages for upcoming events.
